Good guide
This comes up to the quality of Rough Guides that I have come to expect. The reason I have not given it 5* is because not all the World Heritage sites were included, for example Lorsch Abbey. Please include them in the next edition.

fine
Glad I held on to my McLachlan editions
I love travelling in Germany. Thank heaven I visited the big cities and their art galleries before the age of over-tourism. The Rough Guide was my indispensable handbook in several editions from about 1992 onwards and I now realise just how masterly those Gordon McLachlan editions were, with their keen sense of history and aesthetic - so well written as well as being incredibly practical, with hotel and restaurant information that I came to rely upon as my default. This 2018 edition is very detailed too and therefore useful but it has been rewritten since my last McLachlan edition (doubtless he retired) and it's just not the same. I'm glad I kept my old editions, and I even browse them still...
