Rough Guides are our favourite travel guides, an essential purchase when planning any trip. Some travellers will say that they prefer to discover a country for themselves. We have found that you can miss so much and waste valuable time without a comprehensive guide. Rough Guides highlight items which are likely to appeal to us and we can highly recommend them.
A good overview of Sri Lanka
I could not make up my mind whether too but this, Lonely Planet or DK's guide. DK guides are always lavishly illustrated but feel light on information. Lonely Planet, and I have a few of their guides, I decided in the end was not as detailed as this guide. I wanted more info. on the history of the island and more detailed maps. I felt this has the edge hence the purchase I made. As always, no matter how good a guide you always want more and I guess a few more photographs and three dimensional drawings of some of the historical sites would not have gone amiss. I did consider the Brant guide and would have plumped for that, but thought that might be a bit bulky. Pity I could not give this 4.5 stars as deserves more than 4, but is not 5.
