Spoiled by tiny print crammed on page

Packed full of very useful information but very small print crammed onto to pages makes it horrendously difficult to read.
Wanted a good general guide book prior to visiting so I could easily pick out where I wanted to go as a priority as time is short.
Disappointed by lack of supporting images so I’ll still have to trawl the internet.
This book also seems geared towards the market for younger, vegan or richer foodie travellers in part, when it comes to recommending eateries.
I’ll use it for the background information but an disappointed that I can only do this under a very bright reading lamp.
Avoid if your eyesight is not perfect - the poor layout wouldn’t pass accessibility guidelines.

A good place to start but it is outdated & you will need other resources

The first thing to say is that this guide is outdated. I don't think that is necessarily a problem if you just use it as a starting point. It gives some basic information on the history of each place and lists the main features and tourist attractions in each area. This information is obviously still generally up to date and will give you an idea of where you want to visit. I think it is also good at giving you an idea of the culture and flavour of each area. The outdated nature of the book definitely shows itself in the more practical parts of the guide. I would definitely look for hotels etc online. I know that in Bristol so many hotels/cafes/restaurants have closed or opened in the last few years that you really need a more recent source of information. I also found that the guide tends to focus on the most well-known places to visit. That is understandable, but there are some really interesting and unusual places that were not included that are well worth a visit.
